Both Scot Track Teams Finish Among Top Half of NCAC Relays

The College of Wooster track & field teams both finished among the top half of their respective fields at Saturday’s annual North Coast Athletic Conference Relays, as the women placed third (of nine teams) and the men fourth (of 10 teams). The meet was hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots’ women’s squad scored 64.5 points, less than 33 off the pace of team champion Ohio Wesleyan University (97). Junior Kayla Miller led the way, taking home two individual event victories, and was a part of a top-three relay quartet. Miller cleared the high jump bar with a height of 5 feet, 1 inch, just one inch shy of the Wooster indoor record, while leaping through the air with a distance of 33 feet, 10 inches in the triple jump. She also ran the opening leg of the 4x400 relay team of Elizabeth Waldrop, Emily Wilmers and Ali Drushal, which crossed the line in third in 4:33.06.

Another top performance was junior thrower Katie Dale’s second-place showing in the shot put (36 feet, 10 ½ inches).

Other individual noteworthy relay efforts (top-three) came from Dana Culbert, Claire Miller, Jessica Yarmosky and Anna Gil, who were third in the 4x800 (10:49.95), and the second-place team of Ashley Baker, KateLynn Riley, Suzanne Capehart, and Wilmers in the 1600 sprint medley relay (4:38.97). Additionally, Claire Miller, Yarmosky, Culbert, and Capehart teamed up to secure third place in the distance medley relay in 13:34.03.

On the men’s side, sophomore Jon Mathis produced the Scots’ lone individual win from the NCAC Relays, clearing 6 feet, 3/4 inches in the high jump,

Picking up second-place showings were Bryan Albani in the 55-meter hurdles (7.97) and Steve Zumbrun in the shot put (44 feet, 8 inches).

Overall, the Wooster men tallied 46 points, while the Ohio Wesleyan University men won the meet racking up 88.5 points. Wabash College finished a close second with 85 points, while host Denison edged out the Scots for third with 49 points.
