Sophomore Eric Dyer was victorious in the triple jump, and junior Ali Drushal took home three top-four finishes, as the College of Wooster track & field team wound up in fifth during the women’s portion of Saturday’s 10-team Kenyon Classic, while the men ended up sixth of ten teams.

The Wooster women scored 66 points overall, as Otterbein College (141) took home the team title ahead of second-place Oberlin College (123.50) and third-place Ohio Northern University (120).

Individually, Drushal had an all-around day where she recorded a throw of 115 feet, 5 inches, good for runner-up in the javelin throw. She also cleared the bar in the pole vault competition with a height of 9 feet, 11.75 inches, good for a tie for third, and crossed the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles in fourth with a time of 1:10.18.

Additionally, Suzanne Capehart took second-place honors in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:55.59, while Somadina Iworisha came in fourth-place in the javelin (98 feet, 5 inches). The Scots scored key in the high jump competition from Elizabeth Wardrop, who cleared the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches for a tie for fourth.

Picking up fifth-place finishes for Wooster were Claire Miller on the track in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:19.92), and Katie Dale during field events in the shot put (36 feet, 11.5 inches).

As a team, the Scot men scored 67 points. Ohio Northern University, ranked No. 4 in Division III, easily took home the team title with 189 points, while Ohio Wesleyan University was second (98), slightly ahead of third-place John Carroll University (85) and Oberlin College (69.50).

Dyer won the triple jump by nearly two feet (44 feet, 2.75 inches) over teammates Tristan Jordan (42 feet, 9.5 inches) and Averell Gatton (41 feet, 0.5 inches). Complementing him were Sean Twining, who produced a fourth-place effort in the javelin (147 feet, 1 inch), Mark DeWine (5th, 15:46.54) and Rick Workman (6th, 15:52.50) in the 5,000-meter run, and Jon Mathis in fifth in the high jump (6 feet).

Among the Scots’ other top performers Saturday were Matt Jensen in the 110-meter hurdles (16.19), and Josh Kime, who was fifth in the shot put (42 feet, 11.5 inches).

This coming week, Wooster will travel to Granville, Ohio, and take part in the Denison Invitational on Friday before competing in the North Coast Athletic Conference Decathlon/Heptathlon on Saturday and Sunday at Oberlin College.
