Bakerês Seventh-Place Showing in NCAC Heptathlon Highlights Scots' Successful Week

Ashley Baker, The College of Wooster’s lone participant in the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Heptathlon and Decathlon competitions held Saturday and Sunday at Ohio Wesleyan University, placed seventh this weekend with 2,971 points, equaling her finish from last year’s event.

Baker’s best showing of the weekend came in the javelin throw, where she landed third-place with an attempt of 24.93 meters. She also placed sixth in the long jump (4.46 meters), 800 meter run (2:53.54) and high jump (1.40 meters), while taking seventh in both the shot put (7.00 meters) and 200 meter dash (30.05). In addition, Baker finished eighth in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 18.70 seconds.

Earlier in the week, the Fighting Scots took part in the non-scoring Otterbein College Invitational on Wednesday, where several student-athletes found success.

On the men’s side, the Scots landed three of the top-10 finishers in the 400 meter hurdles, with Bryan Albani crossing the line fourth (58.22), Rob Kelm right behind in fifth (59.85) and teammate Matt Jensen in seventh (1:00.98).

Wooster’s field events continued to be a strength, as John Mathis placed second in the high jump (1.88 meters), Eric Dyer took second in the long jump (6.21 meters) and Ramses Clements leaped his way to a second-place showing in the triple jump (12.39 meters), while also taking seventh in the long jump (5.22 meters).

Rick Drushal finished in the top-10 in two events, taking fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.30 meters and ninth in the discus with an effort of 42.25 meters. In addition, Jim Sliwinski place eight in the shot put (13.37 meters) and Robert McConnell also earned an identical finish in the pole vault (3.36 meters).

In the running events, Tim Presto ran away with a third-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:09.00, while Ashton Segree was fourth in the 200 meter dash (23.20) and Michael Cynkar took sixth in the 800 meter run (2:01.00).

On the women’s side, Ali Drushal turned in yet another outstanding meet, winning both the pole vault (2.90 meters) and javelin throw (35.52 meters), while placing third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.04).

Kayla Miller also found success in multiple-events, earning runner-up honors in the triple jump (10.57 meters) and taking fourth in the long jump, clearing the bar in 5.04 meters.

Wooster had two other top-finishers in the pole vault, with Sarah Wiswell taking second only to Drushal with a mark of 2.75 meters and Elizabeth Terveer finishing sixth (2.29 meters).

Also for the Scots, Katie Dale turned in an eighth-place showing in the shot put with a heave of 10.88 meters, and KateLynn Riley finished eighth in the javelin, recording a distance of 19.26 meters.

The Scots will be in action on Thursday and Friday this week, where they will take part in the 2007 NCAC Championships in Delaware, Ohio.
