Scots Finish in Eighth-Place at Season-Ending NCAC Championships
For the second year in a row, The College of Wooster women’s tennis team came in eighth at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, which was hosted by Oberlin College Friday and Saturday. Wooster was dealt a tough draw, having to play Denison University, the No. 5 ranked team in all of NCAA Div. III, in the opening round Friday morning and then followed with tough setbacks to rival Wittenberg University and Earlham College. The Big Red were too much for the Fighting Scots, giving up just two games in doubles action and then prevailing at third and fourth singles. Elissa Lauber turned in the best result, trailing 6-1, 2-1 to the seventh-ranked player in the Central Region when the match was completed due to decision. Paired next against Wittenberg in the back draw, Wooster was much more competitive. The Scots’ No. 2 doubles team of Erin Bauer and Eden Kovacik earned three games before succumbing and Meredith Gavin picked up her first career win at sixth singles. Baurer and Kovacik again had a strong result versus Earlham, pushing their opponents at No. 2 doubles to an 8-5 decision, however, the Quakers finished off the Scots in a sweep, including victories at third and fourth singles. |
