WOOSTER, Ohio – Junior Joanna Tysko (Athens, Ohio / Athens) closed out a career-year for The College of Wooster women’s tennis team by being named first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference as voted on by the coaches and announced by league officials on Tuesday, May 9.

Tysko, who made the move up to the first team after earning second-team honors the last two years, is the first Fighting Scot to land on the conference’s top-team since 1999 (Sarah Ehle) and only the second individual since 1993.

She compiled an impressive 12-8 singles mark at the top of Wooster’s lineup in 2006, while playing some of the best tennis players from around the Central Region, including the top athletes from conference and national powers Denison University and Kenyon College. Tysko managed a respectable 3-4 mark in conference action this season, with three of those losses coming at the hands of opponents ranked among the top-25 in the region.

For her career, Tysko has posted a mark of 30-26 all at No. 1 singles and with another good season, could crack Wooster’s all-time singles victory list. She closed out 2006 in strong fashion, winning six of her last 10 matches (6-4), including her last two against John Carroll University (9-7) and Earlham College (6-4, 6-0) in the seventh-place match of the NCAC Tournament.
