Scots Place Third at RIT Tournament
The College of Wooster won the consolation contest of the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament, defeating the host school, Rochester Institute of Technology, by a count of 2-1 on Sunday. It capped an opening weekend, which also saw the Fighting Scots drop a high-scoring affair Saturday afternoon to the State University of New York at Cortland 4-3. Erin Lustic provided the game-winning goal Sunday, as she broke a 1-1 tie in the 52nd minute. Wooster had been leading 1-0 at halftime behind Alice Bauman’s first career goal, which was assisted by Lustic. The match with Cortland State was a back-and-forth battle. The Scots took the early lead (1-0) on a Lustic goal, assisted by freshman Winnie Adrien. The Red Dragons then put up two unanswered tallies in the middle of the half, but Sarah Schostarez evened it up 2-2 right before halftime via a pass from Angela Evans. Wooster was first to strike in the second half, as Adrien notched her first collegiate goal during the 58th minute. However, the Red Dragons responded with scores in the 66th and 70th minutes, and hung on for the victory. Defensively on the weekend, sophomore Staci Alario made her second and third career starts in goal and combined for six saves, while Adrien was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. The University of Wis.-Eau Claire won the championship, edging Cortland State 1-0. |
