Four-Goal Second Half Leads to 5-1 Victory for Wooster at Mt. Union
The College of Wooster women’s soccer team went on a four-goal spurt in the second half, including two by Winnie Adrien, to defeat host Mt. Union College 5-1 under the lights Tuesday night in Alliance, Ohio, as the Fighting Scots wrapped up their non-conference slate for 2006. Mt. Union (3-6) actually struck first, scoring in the 38th minute, however, Wooster (8-3) came back with an equalizer less than two minutes later when Sarah Schostarez booted home her second goal of the year. Schostarez was assisted by Erin Lustic, and the score remained 1-1 for the final 6:03 of the first half. It was all Scots in the second, starting 7:45 into that half when Lustic scored an unassisted goal, marking her sixth of the campaign. About four minutes later, Adrien connected on her first of the evening, which made it a 3-1 game. During the 70th minute, Schostarez scored again, this time via an assist from Laura Ayer, and just about three minutes later, Adrien converted a breakaway into an unassisted goal, already her 13th of the season, to cap the scoring. Wooster’s goalkeepers, Staci Alario and Sara Flannelly, combined for four saves in the win. The rest of the Scots’ schedule is all North Coast Athletic Conference matches, starting Saturday when they welcome Ohio Wesleyan University (4-2-2, 0-0-0 NCAC) to Carl Dale Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff. |
