WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women’s soccer team dominated Marietta College to a tune of 3-0 during non-conference action late Wednesday afternoon at a wet Carl Dale Memorial Field. More impressive than the final score was a 30-4 shot advantage for the Fighting Scots, who improved to 4-1.

After both squads adapted to the slippery conditions early on, freshman sensation Winnie Adrien got things started for Wooster in the seventh minute as she dribbled through and around a couple of defenders and then lofted a shot that nestled into the upper right corner of the net for her sixth goal. Adrien later contributed an assist and now has 16 points (6 goals, 3 assists) through five career matches.

During the 23rd minute, the Scots were awarded a free kick near the left goal line. Chantal Koechli’s cross went right to a diving Chelsea Happ, who headed it inside the left post for a 2-0 lead. It marked Happ’s second goal and Koechli’s fourth assist of the season.

The rain had subsided, but Wooster continued to pepper the Marietta goal. One of its 17 second-half shots found the mark when Adrien crossed the ball from just inside the box on the left side over to Kerry Melenovsiy, who knocked it inside the right post for her first goal this year.

Second-string goalie Sara Flannelly made a late stop – the Scots’ only save of the day – to preserve the shutout, while Jenna Freeman came up with 12 saves for the Pioneers, who dropped to 2-2-2.

Next for Wooster is a pair of neutral-site matches at Kenyon College this weekend, as it will take on Hope College (0-2-1) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Otterbein College (3-0-1) Saturday at 4 p.m.
