Winnie Adrien recorded the 12th hat trick in women's soccer history at Wooster on Saturday.

Winnie Adrien scored the 12th hat trick in College of Wooster women’s soccer history Saturday afternoon, leading the Fighting Scots past fellow northeast Ohio foe Case Western Reserve University 5-1 at Wooster’s Carl Dale Memorial Field. Adrien, a freshman forward, also contributed an assist, giving her a seven-point day.

The offensive firepower from the Scots (3-1) was on display early, as they scored three times in the opening 17:06. First, senior Erin Lustic, who had a hat trick herself last season against Mt. Union College, found the back of the Case net during the fourth minute via an Adrien assist. Not long after, Adrien and Chelsea Happ scored goals just 2:20 apart, with both being assisted by freshman Chantal Koechli, to put Wooster up 3-0 with 27:54 still left in the first half. For Happ, a senior, it marked her first career goal.

It remained 3-0 through halftime, but early in the second, the Spartans (1-3) made things interesting via a Meredith Andrepont score during the 48th minute. The Scots responded, though, about six minutes later with the second of Adrien’s goals, and she completed the hat trick during the 73rd minute.

Adrien joined four others in team history to record at least seven points in a single match, and now has 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists) through her first four career games.

In goal, Staci Alario and Sara Flannelly combined for four saves to help Wooster to victory, while Case also utilized two goalies and they combined for two saves.

The Scots complete their three-match homestand this Wednesday when they host Marietta College (1-1-2) at 5 p.m.
