Coming off back-to-back shutouts, The College of Wooster’s offense snapped out of its slump with seven goals, including six during the first 60 minutes, as the Fighting Scots routed Heidelberg College 7-0 in women’s soccer action at Carl Dale Memorial Field Wednesday.

It marked the biggest margin of victory for Wooster since an Oct. 7, 1999, meeting versus Hiram College, also a 7-0 final. Also, it was just the Scots’ second seven-goal game of the 2000s, with the other coming against Muskingum College Sept. 10, 2003.

Less than 24 hours after being upset by John Carroll University (2-0), Wooster took control early on Wednesday. The Scots’ leading scorers, Erin Lustic and Winnie Adrien, each scored goals with the other assisting during the opening 10 minutes. Both were on crosses.

Adrien booted in another goal, this time unassisted, at 27:13 to make it 3-0, and she would add one more assist on a Kerry Melenovsky goal right before halftime. Adrien now has 25 points (10 goals, 5 assists) through nine matches, which puts her just 14 shy of the single-season school scoring record.

Letitia Clark scored off a pass from Nora Simon in the 54th minute, and then one of Wooster’s defensive standouts, junior Laura Ayer, got into the act as she scored her second career goal during the 60th minute.

Katie Johnson capped the scoring on a nifty shot into the upper right corner of the goal, marking the freshman’s first collegiate goal. She was assisted by Kelly Goss.

Scot ‘keepers Sara Flannelly and Kodi Kassell were not tested often, but did come up with two saves apiece to preserve the shutout.

Next, Wooster begins its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule this Saturday when it takes on Earlham College (3-3, 0-0 NCAC) in Richmond, Ind., at noon.
