Scots' Depth Pays Off in 3-1 Win at Wilmington
Box Score
The College of Wooster got three goals from its bench, including two from Amanda Coppes, on Saturday night (Sept. 14) to upend host Wilmington College 3-1 in women's soccer non-league action.
The victory pushes Wooster's unbeaten streak to nine matches (including two at the end of last year) and its 2002 record to 5-0-2, while Wilmington falls to 3-2-0.
The Scots scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the first half to take control of Saturday's game. First, freshman Alexa McCarthy, who later assisted on Coppes' second goal, found the back of the net on an unassisted play during the 34th minute. Then, Coppes booted one home off a pass from sophomore Bethany Reiner less than nine minutes later.
It remained 2-0 until the Lady Quakers pulled within one in the 71st minute, however, Coppes responded with her third goal of the season less than five minutes later to put the match away.
Wooster senior Nicole Roman continued her stellar play in net, fending off 20 Wilmington shots, while only letting one slip by.
The Scots look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday (Sept. 18), when they travel to Erie, Pa., for a meeting with Penn State Behrend at 5 p.m. It will be their final tune-up before North Coast Athletic Conference play begins next weekend.
