Women's Soccer Blasts Oberlin

After a disappointing loss to open the season, the College of Wooster women§s soccer team came back with a 6-1 win against Oberlin College yesterday afternoon.

Using well executed moves and turns, the Scots opened with first half goals by freshman Beth Hemminger (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Stephanie Hulke (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Oberlin§s Becky Kanuch scored with three minutes remaining in the half to put a dent in the Wooster lead.

The Scots came back with two goals early in the second half, including a score by sophomore Sara Austin (Huber Heights) just 30 seconds into the stanza. Before the final went off, Hemminger scored two more goals and Hulke added another to give the Wooster a convincing win. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Roman (Akron) registered two saves and earned her first collegiate victory in the net.

Wooster Head Coach David Brown again made a lot of substitutions, affording each member of the travelling team some playing time in the game. Along with the three scorers, the starting lineup included juniors Talley Clyde (Shreve), Stacie Packard (Avon Lake), Liz Martin (Cleveland Heights), and Jennifer Waina (Euclid) as well as freshmen Janette Frederick (Bay Village), Jessica Bacon (Rocky River), and Lindsay Zella (Painesville).

The Scots will next play Susquehanna at Oberlin on Sept. 5, at 11 a.m.
