Women's Soccer Wins Seventh Straight in Dramatic Fashion

The College of Wooster women's soccer team won its seventh match in a row in dramatic fashion on Sept. 21, as the Scots defeated Mount Union 1-0 in double overtime.

Freshman Rebecca Stinson (Nashville, Tenn. / Hillsboro), who had been issued a yellow card in the first half, made a spectacular individual effort to score her first collegiate goal in the 109th minute of the match. Stinson stole the ball from a Purple Raider on the right sideline, dribbled the ball towards the middle of the field, and fired a shot over the outstretched arms of the goalie into the upper left corner of the net.

Scot freshman goalkeeper Nicole Roman (Akron, Ohio / Archbishop Hoban) registered 11 saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Statistically, the Scots dominated the match as they outshot Mount Union 23-11 and had more corner kicks than the Purple Raiders.

Wooster, which was ranked seventh in the Great Lakes region in the most recent poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, will host Walsh on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m.
