Women's Soccer Loses to the Blue Streaks
The women's soccer team from Wooster went up against a worthy opponent Wednesday afternoon in John Carroll University. The Scots have lost to the Blue Streaks the past two years, including once in overtime. Hopes were high this time, but the game ended with a 2-0 score in favor of John Carroll.
Both teams started strong, but the Blue Streaks pulled ahead in the 21st minute with a goal by Sue Foell during a defensive lapse by Wooster. The second goal came with nine minutes left in the first half. The Scots came back strong and kept the ball in John Carroll's territory for most of the second half, but were unable to score any goals.
Despite the score, Wooster played well, with an exceptional performance from freshman fullback Janette Frederick (Bay Village). Joining Frederick in the starting line up were junior captains Stacie Packard (Avon Lake), Talley Clyde (Shreve), and Katie Walker (Euclid); sophomores Sara Austin (Huber Heights), Stephanie Hulke (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Christine Hulke (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Cori Keefe (Terrace Park), Liz Martin (Cleveland Heights),; and freshmen Jessica Bacon (Rocky River), Beth Hemminger (Annapolis, Md.), and goalie Adrienne Walts (Rochester, Minn.). Kristine DeWitt (Bay Village) and veteran Jennifer Waina (Euclid) were unable to play due to injury.
Wooster Head Coach David Brown made several substitutions and gave minutes to 22 players, in order to evaluate his young squad.
