Four College of Wooster women’s soccer players were named Wednesday to the 2007 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Team, led by senior forward Laura Ayer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) and junior defender Kristin McCall (Portage, Mich. / Portage Northern) as the duo earned first-team honors. Also, senior defender Angela Evans (Worthington, Ohio / Thomas Worthington) and freshman forward Liz Mott (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. / The Masters School) received honorable mention.

Ayer, now a four-time all-NCAC award winner after gaining her third first-team nod in a row, made the successful transition from being a stalwart in Wooster’s backfield to the offensive end this fall. She scored a team-leading seven goals and assisted on three others for 17 points, which tied for the seventh-most in the NCAC. For her career, Ayer played in 73 matches, starting each of the last 65, and totaled 23 points (9 goals, 5 assists).

McCall, who was an honorable mention pick on last year’s all-conference team, served as the anchor of this season’s Fighting Scot defense, which allowed just 15 goals – the second-fewest in the NCAC. Wooster held 16 of its 18 opponents to one goal or less, including six shutouts. Offensively, McCall contributed an assist during the season-ending 2-1 victory over Earlham College, and she now has 35 career games played with 16 of her 25 starts coming this fall.

Evans earned the second all-NCAC citation of her career, also tabbed with honorable mention as a first-year. She was another cornerstone of the Scots’ backfield, starting all 18 matches for a group that ranked third in the league in goals against average (0.81). Evans possessed one of the strongest legs on the team, often taking free kicks, which resulted in three goals and one assist on the year. For her career, Evans, who also was a three-year member of Wooster’s women’s basketball team, started 66 of 75 games played and totaled 16 points (4 goals, 8 assists).

Mott exploded on to the scene, leading the Scots in scoring with 19 points, which came on five goals and nine assists. Those nine helpers marked the fourth-most for a single-season in school history, while she ranked seventh in the NCAC at 1.06 points per game. Mott had three multi-point games, including a one-goal, one-assist effort during the season finale.

As a team, Wooster posted its ninth consecutive winning season with a 12-5-1 overall record (.694). During conference games, the Scots tied for fourth-place via a 4-3-1 mark and narrowly missed out on the NCAC’s four-team postseason tournament via a tiebreaker.
