Continuing the quest for its first North Coast Athletic Conference championship since 1996, The College of Wooster will welcome two opponents to Carl Dale Memorial Field this week for league matches. Wooster, currently with seven points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie) and just three behind the conference’s first-place team, will first host No. 24 ranked Denison University (9-4-1, 2-1-1 NCAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. The Big Red have gotten the better of the Fighting Scots historically with a 16-4-4 lead in the all-time series, however, Wooster has not lost to them since 2004, including a 2-1 victory last fall. This Saturday, Oct. 20, the Scots will host last-place Oberlin College (2-9-1, 0-4-0 NCAC) at 1 p.m. Wooster has won 17 of 23 total meetings against Oberlin (17-4-2), including three-goal wins each of the last three seasons.

Last Week: The Scots played just once, earning a key road victory in conference play to up their record to 10-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NCAC.

On Oct. 10, Wooster scored a pair of second-half goals just 6:13 apart to overcome a 1-0 deficit and defeat host Allegheny College 2-1 during an NCAC match played in cool, rainy conditions at Meadville, Pa. The Scots were trailing midway through the second half, but in the 67th minute, freshman Emily Wilmers (Cincinnati, Ohio / Clark Montessori) picked an ideal time for her first collegiate goal, getting off a shot amongst a scramble in front of the net and past the goalie. Picking up an assist on the play was freshman Liz Mott (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. / Masters School). The Scots continued to pressure, and in the 73rd minute, senior Angela Evans (Worthington, Ohio / Thomas Worthington) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal off of a free kick.

It marked her third goal this season and fourth of her career. The Gators, who had scored during the 11th minute, would only get one more shot off during the final 17:15 and ‘keeper Abby Brown (Copper Canyon, Texas / Marcus) was there for the save to preserve Wooster’s win. Brown tallied three saves overall.
