The College of Wooster’s Hillary Darragh scored an unassisted goal with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Scots reeled off a 5-0 run that spanned 2:55 midway through the second half, keying Wooster’s comeback 11-10 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

With 16:24 left in the final stanza, Wittenberg (3-4, 0-2 NCAC) owned an 8-5 advantage. The Scots’ offense, however, caught fire scoring five unanswered goals over nearly a three-minute period, and moved ahead by a 10-8 count.  During that stretch, Wooster (4-3, 1-0 NCAC) got three goals from freshman Nina Dine, and single tallies from Carly Carey and Darragh.

Wittenberg tied the game at 10-10 with goals from Joelle Ghanem and Maggie Amorello with 3:53 and 2:28 showing on the game clock, respectively, before Darragh’s final-minute tally propelled Wooster to the win.

Offensively, Dine led Wooster with a five-point day with four goals and an assist, while Darragh finished with three goals and an assist. Additionally, Cassie Brown collected two goals and a helper. Also of note, Taryn Higgins produced a good all-around day, finishing with a goal, an assist, three draw controls, and two groundballs for the Scots.

Lizzie Amorello led Wittenberg with four points coming on three goals and an assist, while Maggie Amorello had two goals and a helper.

In net, the Scots’ Jamie Dannenberg made a season-high 15 saves en route to the win, and Bonnie Kenney of the Tigers suffered the loss despite eight saves.

Wooster jumps out of NCAC play when it hosts Adrian College (4-3) on Tuesday with face-off scheduled for 5 p.m. at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
