Scots Fall 13-12 in Back-and-Forth Affair at Redlands
The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 13-12 decision at the University of Redlands in a regional match-up that featured six ties. The final tie came when Wooster’s Carly Carey knotted it 11-11 with exactly 10:00 to go in regulation. Redlands (2-3) retook the momentum with a goal just 35 seconds later and took a two-goal cushion at the 4:19 mark. The Fighting Scots (2-1) made one last charge, as Carey fed Hillary Darragh for a score to pull within one with 1:26 to play, but they couldn’t come up with the equalizer. Wooster had led 6-3, but the host Bulldogs closed the opening half with a three-goal flurry during a 1:51 stretch to tie it for the third time. The Scots scored the first two goals of the second, but then Redlands went on a critical 5-1 run to take an 11-9 advantage. Individually, Carey netted five goals for the second consecutive game and added an assist. Darragh had two goals and one assist, while Nina Dine, Taryn Higgins, and Becca Worthington each contributed 1-goal, 1-assist efforts. The Bulldogs were paced by Christy Smith’s four goals. Wooster concludes its California trip with a neutral-site contest against Colorado College (4-2) on Friday morning. |
