A season-opening trip out west to California for The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team resulted in two wins to start its campaign, as the Fighting Scots started with a 18-3 triumph at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, followed by a victory at Whittier College on Monday by a 16-13 count.

In its 2008 debut, Wooster came out blazing aided by freshman attacker Nina Dine, who had a solid first collegiate game, accounting for four points on two goals and two assists against the Sagehens. Complementing Dine was junior Hillary Darragh with a hat trick. Junior Carly Carey and freshman Jill Lee each tacked on three goals, respectively, while sophomore Becca Worthington added a pair of scores.

Against Whittier, Wooster continued to flex its offensive muscle. Seven different players scored goals, led by Carey with five giving her eight for the two games, and Worthington threw in three. Senior Cassie Brown and Carey each contributed an assist, while also of note, Darragh, junior Taryn Higgins, and sophomore Amy Denny recorded two goals apiece.

Defensively, junior Jamie Dannenberg played every minute in goal and combined for 13 saves.

Next up, the Scots continue their four-game swing through California on Wednesday against Redlands College (1-3) at 10 p.m.
