Hillary Darragh

Junior Hillary Darragh recorded a five-point day, scoring four goals and assisting on another Saturday afternoon, to lead the College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to a 10-7 decision over Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. The victory moved the Scots, winners of their last five contests, to 7-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon falls to 7-2 and 2-1 in the conference.

The Ladies got on the board just :17 into the game, taking the opening draw and scoring as Amanda Drummond found the back of the Wooster net with the first of her three goals for the contest.

Wooster responded just over two minutes later, as Darragh scored on an assist from Carly Carey. Drummond drew the Ladies back to even at the 24:07 mark on a free-position shot, but goals by Jess Baylor and Darragh at 22:38 and 18:47, respectively, put Wooster back on top by a 3-2 score.

Caely Melford
once again tied the game (3-3) on an assist from Alicia Florin, but Wooster closed out the first half with four unanswered tallies and a 7-3 lead. Darragh, who had already scored twice in the half, logged two of those four Wooster goals, and Carey posted the other two, including a free-position goal.

Out of the break, Kenyon netted the first two scores of the second half. Liz Hancock and Jackie Shirreffs each found the Wooster net, bringing the Ladies to within two (7-5) at the 25:17 mark, but Wooster freshman Nina Dine recorded an unassisted goal, her 19th score of the spring, making the Wooster advantage three (8-5). Drummond scored again at the 14:14 mark, but goals by Taryn Higgins with 9:29 and Carey with 5:46 remaining put the Scots up for good.

Statistically, Wooster possessed a 30-24 advantage in shots, despite being out-shot in the second 30 minutes of play by a 16-11 count. In net, Wooster’s Jamie Dannenberg picked up the victory, recording 11 saves, while Kenyon’s Chase Kreuter collected 10.

The Scots will stay on the road and travel to Meadville, Pa. for a key NCAC contest at Allegheny College (4-6, 2-0 NCAC). They take on the Gators Tuesday at 7 p.m.
