Leading by slim 7-6 mark with 18:24 left in the game, the College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team used a 5-0 run that spanned 11:55 and built its advantage to six (12-6), never looking back en route to knocking off Allegheny College 14-10 in North Coast Athletic Conference action Tuesday in Meadville, Pa.

The victory allows the Fighting Scots to remain perfect in NCAC action with a 4-0 league mark, and runs their win streak to six games, as they improve to 8-3 overall. With the loss, Allegheny falls to 4-8 and 2-2 in the conference.

Wooster opened the game jumping out to a 4-0 advantage with 18:29 left on the first half clock, thanks to a pair of goals from Hillary Darragh, along with single tallies by Nina Dine and Becca Worthington.

Trailing by four, Allegheny recorded its first goal of the game on a score by Meg Grossman at the 16:29 mark. Over the final minutes, the two teams traded goals, as Darragh netted her third of the half, and Wooster took a 6-3 lead into the intermission.

Carly Carey collected the first goal of the second half nearly two-and-a-half minutes in, but four consecutive Gator goals brought the home team to within one (7-6) before Wooster methodically pulled away for the key NCAC victory.

Carey led the Wooster scoring parade with three goals and two assists, while Dine, Darragh, and Taryn Higgins each also recorded hat tricks, respectively. Accounting for the other Scot scores were Jess Baylor and Worthington, while Dine added a helper.

Pacing Allegheny was Jensen Patterson with three goals. Teammates Ashley Hughes and Lana Cannon added two goals apiece, as Hughes and Christina Zanic tallied three and two assists, respectively.

Lesley Stange
started in goal for the Gators, allowing 14 goals and recording 10 saves. In net for Wooster, Jamie Dannenberg totaled eight saves and allowed 10 goals in the victory.

Wooster looks to keep their positive momentum going, returning home this Saturday when Denison University at 1 p.m. at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
