The College of Wooster broke a 6-6 tie, scoring the last three goals of the opening half and going on a 5-1 run during the first 10:38 of the second half to take a commanding lead, and went on to a 17-10 win at Oberlin College Thursday in North Coast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action.

The key stretch for Wooster (7-3, 3-0 NCAC), which extends its winning streak to six, came over the final 13 minutes of the first half. Upstart Oberlin (6-4, 1-2 NCAC) had just scored three unanswered to tie the game, but then the Scots responded with goals from Jess Baylor, Carly Carey, and Lauren DeZellar, taking a 9-6 lead into the break.

The Yeowomen pulled within two 42 seconds into the second half, but then it was all Wooster with five consecutive tallies coming from Taryn Higgins, Emily Baab, Cassie Brown, Hillary Darragh, and Allison Rubin as the Scots built a 14-7 cushion.

Wooster’s balanced offensive attack was on full display Thursday. Eleven different players scored goals, led by Carey with a hat trick. Contributing two goals apiece were Baab, Brown, Darragh, and DeZellar, and Baab led all players with five points as she had three assists as well.

Scarlett Prati paced Oberlin with four goals.

The Scot defense added to the victory, limiting the Yeowomen to 26 shots, compared to 42 for Wooster, with Baylor causing three turnovers, Christina Shiroma collecting four groundballs, and Jamie Dannenberg making nine saves.

Next, the Scots look to keep rolling when they host Kenyon College (6-5, 2-2 NCAC) Saturday at 1 p.m.
