The College of Wooster fought back from a 5-0 deficit and tied the game 8-8 with 5:56 remaining, however, it was Notre Dame (Ohio) College that scored the decisive goal to come away with a 9-8 victory at Wooster’s Carl Dale Memorial Field Wednesday during non-conference women’s lacrosse action.

Trailing 7-3 early in the second half, Wooster (1-3) went on a 5-1 run, highlighted by three unanswered goals from Emily Baab over a 6:25 stretch. Baab’s last score knotted the game at eight.

Although the Scots appeared to have all the momentum at that point, Notre Dame (7-2) won the ensuing draw control and scored 37 seconds later when Nikki Gatlin converted a free position attempt.

Wooster would take several runs at the Falcons’ net over the final 5:19, but could not come up with the equalizer.

Baab’s three goals led the way for the Scots’ offense, while Annie Steward chipped in two. Accounting for the others were Cassie Brown, Taryn Higgins, and Becca Worthington, while Letitia Clark contributed with an assist on the afternoon.

Stacey Gowe had a team-leading three goals for Notre Dame (Ohio).

Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg played her best game to date, registering a career-high 13 saves to keep Wooster in the game, while her counterpart, Kylie Flett, came up with 10 stops.

The Scots look to bounce back Sunday when they host Fontbonne University (0-6), a first-year varsity program out of the St. Louis area, at 1 p.m.
