Senior and two-time All-American Beth Hemminger was in top form on Sunday afternoon, as her four goals and four assists keyed The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team's 12-7 victory over visiting St. Vincent College in non-conference action.
Wooster (4-1) jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead via three goals and an assist from Hemminger before St. Vincent could even get on the scoreboard. Buoyed by another goal and assist from Hemminger, the Scots took an 8-2 advantage into the halftime break.
Wooster scored the opening three of the second half, but to the Bearcats' credit, they fought back and made things interesting. In fact, St. Vincent had a series of five unanswered goals to close within four (11-7) at the 7:48 mark, however, the Scots answered with a Megan Kennedy goal to seal it.
Freshman Megan Sward complemented Hemminger on the offensive end, as she found the back of the net twice and helped out on three other goals to raise her season point total from 11 to 16, while Kennedy, a senior, added two goals and one assist.
Hannah Doblick and Ricki Santucci recorded two goals apiece for the Bearcats.
Wooster's two goalies, first-year Nicole Hunt and junior Becky McAtee, each produced nine saves. Hunt started and went the first 37:48, allowing just two goals, while McAtee finished the final 22:52.
On the other end, St. Vincent's Melissa Old went the distance and made 15 total saves.
Next, the Scots return to league play with a trip to Ohio Wesleyan University (4-5, 1-1) this Tuesday (April 8) at 4:30 p.m.
