Beth Hemminger scored on all five shots she took and assisted on two other College of Wooster goals on Tuesday afternoon (April 8) en route to tying the school record for career points (241) during a 16-6 North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Hemminger's 131 goals and 110 assists over the last four seasons ties her with Meg Wood atop the all-time scoring list at Wooster. Wood had 241 points on 212 goals and 29 assists from 1992-95.
More importantly, the Scots stayed on track for their second-straight NCAC championship, as they improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, thanks to eight unanswered goals in the second half on Tuesday.
Ohio Wesleyan (4-6, 1-2 NCAC) trailed 8-5 after Carrie Williams' score at the 23:20 mark, but just 10 seconds later, Lizzie Newton started the aforementioned eight-goal run. In fact, Newton put home unassisted goals less than two minutes apart to double-up the Battling Bishops (10-5), and Wooster went on to put it away with four more scores over the next five minutes.
Hemminger's big day was balanced out by three goals from Megan Kennedy and a two-goal, four-assist performance from Megan Sward. Other Scots scoring in the win were Helena Iaquinta with two goals, and Ashley Arnold and Erica Frazier-Young with one apiece.
Williams paced Ohio Wesleyan with a hat trick.
The difference in the contest may have come in goal, as Wooster's Nicole Hunt produced 15 saves while playing all 60 minutes and the Battling Bishops' Libby May was able to fend off just six Scot shots.
The Scots return briefly to non-league play this Saturday (April 12), as they are scheduled to travel to upstate New York for a match-up with Alfred University (3-4).
