Freshman Megan Sward scored three goals, including the first two of the game, and assisted on another to lead The College of Wooster past host Oberlin College 12-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday (April 2).

It marked both teams' NCAC opener, as Wooster improved to 3-1 overall and kept Oberlin winless (0-4).

Sward put home her first goal less than two minutes into the game, but it remained 1-0 until the midway point of the first half. At that juncture, Sward got the Scots' offense going with her second score, and Wooster went on to score six more before Oberlin stopped the bleeding at the end of the half.

The Scots added to their 8-1 halftime lead early in the second, scoring three more times before the midway point, and eventually sealed the 10-goal decision.

Complementing Sward's outburst were sophomore Ashley Arnold, senior Jessica Bacon, senior Megan Kennedy, and sophomore Mary Risley, who scored two goals apiece. Arnold also had an assist.

The Yeowomen's lone points came from Anna Ialeggio and Brianna Quinn.

Defensively, Wooster held Oberlin to six shots. In the first half, Scot starting goalie Nicole Hunt only needed to make one save, while Becky McAtee played the second and produced five saves.

Next, Wooster will host a non-conference game this Sunday (April 6) versus St. Vincent College (3-4) at 2 p.m.
