The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team returned to its challenging non-conference schedule with a trip to central Pennsylvania this weekend (April 6-7), and although it came back with a pair of losses, Wooster could benefit from these types of games during its chase for the conference championship. On Saturday, the University of Scranton reeled off five-straight goals to start the second half, turning a 5-3 game into a seven-goal advantage over the Scots en route to a 13-7 victory. Scranton, which improved to 4-3, never led by less than five following that flurry and held the overall shot advantage by 11 (32-21). Wooster played a 7-2 Susquehanna University squad very close on Sunday before succumbing 6-4 in a low-scoring battle in Selinsgrove, Pa. The Scots led 3-1 with 7:11 left in the first before Susquehanna put home two late scores to knot it at the half. Wooster took the lead back just 1:39 into the second half, but that would be its last goal and the Crusaders scored three times during a nine-minute stretch midway through the stanza to secure the win. Individually, Beth Hemminger was the Scots' leading scorer over the weekend, totaling three goals and three assists. Next was Megan Kennedy, who had three goals and one assist, all of which came at Scranton. Angela Arnold had two goals, joining Hemminger as the only player to score in each game. Playing well in net throughout the weekend was Kim Christensen. She made 12 stops against Scranton and added nine more in the Susquehanna game, compiling a .525 save percentage for the two games. Wooster (3-4) will play its second North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season on Thursday (April 11), when it hosts Oberlin College at 4:30 p.m. |
