The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team overcame an early 2-0 deficit on Tuesday (April 2) and scored seven unanswered goals en route to an 8-3 victory over visiting Ohio Wesleyan University in Wooster's low-scoring North Coast Athletic Conference opener. It was a defensive battle throughout, but the Scots were able to methodically take control of the game. Less than a minute after Ohio Wesleyan took a two-goal advantage, Megan Kennedy put Wooster on the scoreboard off a pass from Lizzie Newton. Then, Newton knotted it with an unassisted tally and right before halftime Miriam Esber scored on a free position shot to give the Scots a 3-2 lead at the break. Esber, Kennedy, and Newton each had one goal during the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Wooster's defensive line led by Courtney Anson, Jessica Bacon, Kennedy, Krista Klocke, and Nicole Pritchard was solid throughout, holding the Battling Bishops to 19 total shots. Additionally, goalie Kim Christensen played well, making 12 saves to mark her best outing thus far in 2002. The Scots, winners of their last three and 3-2 overall, head to central Pa., this weekend for a pair of non-conference battles against the University of Scranton and Susquehanna University. | ||
