The College of Wooster broke a 7-7 tie with a four-goal flurry early in the second half on Thursday (March 28) and then coasted to a 16-9 victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania in non-conference women's lacrosse action. After I.U.P., an NCAA Division II institution, scored three-straight times to turn a 7-4 halftime deficit into a tie, Wooster answered with four unanswered tallies in just 1:37 to take control. The Indians never got closer than two, as the Scots went on to their first win in three tries this season. During the game-deciding flurry, Wooster exhibited its balanced offensive attack with four different players scoring the goals. Junior Megan Kennedy started it off on a feed from classmate Beth Hemminger, then Hemminger stuffed one in unassisted, followed by sophomores Lizzie Newton and Molly Spirer, both of whom scored off passes from freshman Angela Arnold. Overall, Hemminger, Newton, and senior Emily White recorded three goals each. Hemminger and White added three and two assists, respectively, for six- and five-point efforts. Kennedy and Arnold finished with three-point outings, as Kennedy had two goals and an assist, and Arnold one goal and two assists. Additionally for the Scots, freshman Ashley Arnold, the twin sister of Angela, senior Miriam Esber, freshman Erica Frazier-Young, and Spirer contributed one goal apiece. Senior Kim Christensen earned her first victory of the year in net, making eight saves, while I.U.P.'s Pam Roy had to make 21 saves to keep her team in the game. Leading the way offensively for the Indians was Amy Hood, Lindsay Martin, and Beth Starkey with two tallies each. Wooster will make its home debut this Saturday (March 30), as it welcomes the State University of New York at Brockport (0-0) to Cindy Barr Memorial Field for a tilt starting at noon. | ||
