For the second-straight game, the College of Wooster women's lacrosse team exploded on the offensive end of the field, as the Scots defeated Wittenberg 25-7 in North Coast Athletic Conference action this afternoon (April 19). The Scots, who blasted Earlham 23-1 on Saturday (April 15), scored 20 or more goals in back-to-back games for the first time in school history. Wooster's attack was fast and furious early on, as the Scots tallied five goals in the first eight minutes of the contest, including two in the first 47 seconds of play. Momentarily, the Tigers were able to slow down Wooster, as they cut the lead to 6-2 with 18:24 remaining in the first half. Then, the Scots answered by scoring five times over the next 5:07 to take a commanding nine-goal lead. Wittenberg finally ended Wooster's 7-0 run with a goal of its own at the 7:14 mark, but the Scots responded with four more scores to go into halftime with a 17-4 lead. It was more of the same in the second half, as Wooster scored five-straight to open the stanza en route to securing an 18-goal victory. Five Scots did most of the damage led by freshman Beth Hemminger's four-goal, four-assist performance. Maggie Buckingham scored a game-high six goals and added an assist in her final regular season home game. Freshman Megan Kennedy also contributed seven points coming on five goals and a pair of assists. In addition, sophomore Emily White scored four goals, while classmate Miriam Esber had three goals and one assist. In goal for Wooster, sophomore Kim Christensen registered nine saves. Next, the Scots start a three-game road trip at Division I Canisus in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday, April 22, at noon.
