The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team had hopes of opening its conference season with a 2-0 mark today (April 1), but those hopes were dashed quickly by Denison, which scored 12 of the game's first 13 goals en route to a 20-12 victory. The Scots, who are now 2-2 on the year, closed the first half with a 4-0 run to cut the Big Red lead to 13-6. However, Denison scored four goals in the first five minutes of the second stanza to end any chances of a Wooster comeback. Despite the setback, Scot senior Maggie Buckingham recorded a milestone, as she became the eighth player in school history to score 100 career goals. On the day, Buckingham led Wooster in scoring with seven points on five goals and two assists. Also for the Scots, freshman Beth Hemminger contributed two goals and team-high four assists. Junior Katelyn Connolly added one goal and two assists, while freshman Megan Kennedy tallied two scores. Senior Carly Bronson and junior Jessica Critchlow scored one goal apiece, while sophomore Miriam Esber dished out one assist. In goal, Wooster sophomore Kim Christensen had a rough outing, as she made just nine saves. The Scots will look to back on the right track tomorrow (April 2) when they host a winless-St. Vincent team at 1 p.m.
