Scots Hosting Adrian, Oberlin as Part of Three-Game Week
The College of Wooster has a busy stretch upcoming with three games over five days, starting Tuesday, April 8. That day, the Fighting Scots will host non-league opponent Adrian College (4-3), a first-year varsity program, at 5 p.m. Wooster will also be home on Thursday, April 10, when it welcomes North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin College (2-6, 0-2 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m. The Fighting Scots have won eight in a row in games against Oberlin, including a 17-10 decision last spring. Wooster continues NCAC action on Saturday, April 12, traveling to upstart Kenyon College (6-0, 1-0 NCAC) for a 1 p.m. match-up. Last season’s meeting between the two went to overtime, with the Scots eventually securing a 13-12 win – their eighth-straight against the Ladies. Last Week: Wooster won both of its road games, moving above the .500 mark for the season at 4-3. On April 2, four different Scots scored during a game-opening 5-0 run and Wooster went on to a 15-9 victory at Seton Hill University in a non-league match-up. After the Scots early flurry, Seton Hill came back to within 8-5 at halftime, but that would be as close as it would get. Wooster scored the first three goals of the second half and later added a four-goal run for a 15-6 cushion before the Griffins made the final score look more respectable. Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass. / Academy at Charlemont), Cassie Brown (New Fairfield, Conn. / New Fairfield), and Nina Dine (Tuckahoe, N.Y. / E.C. Fieldston School) paced the offense, scoring five, four, and three goals, respectively. Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) was credited with 11 saves. On April 5, Hillary Darragh (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.) scored an unassisted goal with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Scots past rival Wittenberg University 11-10 at Springfield, Ohio. Wooster trailed 6-5 at the half and it was 8-5 before the Scots strung together a crucial 5-0 run during a 2:55 time period, with Dine accounting for three of those goals. Wittenberg would tie it up with 2:28 left before Darragh’s game-winner. Dine led all players with a five-point game, consisting of four goals and an assist, while Darragh tallied three goals and one helper for the game. Another key factor to Wooster’s win was Dannenberg, who collected a season-high 15 saves. |
