Scots On the Road for Two, Including NCAC Opener Saturday
The College of Wooster is hoping to halt its three-game losing skid, as the Fighting Scots will take to the road for a pair of games. First, Wooster heads to the Pittsburgh area for a match-up with Seton Hill University (3-5) on Wednesday, April 2, at 5 p.m. The teams have played each of the last two seasons, with the Scots winning each time, including 16-7 last year. This Saturday, April 5, will be Wooster’s North Coast Athletic Conference opener, as it will travel to rival Wittenberg University (3-2, 0-0 NCAC) for a 2 p.m. opening draw control. The Scots upped their win streak over the Tigers to four games when they prevailed 11-5 in last spring’s meeting. Last Week: Wooster fell in its lone game, slipping to 2-3 overall on the young season. On March 29, the Scots erased a two-goal deficit, tying the State University of New York at Fredonia 5-5 early in the second half, but the Blue Devils would spoil Wooster’s home opener by rattling off a 4-0 spurt to end the game for an 11-7 victory. The Scots jumped out to a 3-1 lead early on, with Hillary Darragh (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.) scoring once and assisting on two others. Then, Fredonia State had the first of its two four-goal runs to take a 5-3 advantage late in the first half. The game would then be tied 5-5, 6-6, and 7-7 before the Blue Devils’ 4-0 run during the final 12:43. Darragh ended up with one more assist for a four-point outing, while Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass. / Academy at Charlemont) scored three goals, marking the fourth time in five games this season she’s had at least a hat trick. Nina Dine (Tuckahoe, N.Y. / E.C. Fieldston School) added two goals and one assist for Wooster, and on the other side of the field, Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) made seven saves. |
