Sporting a 3-4 record through seven games, The College of Wooster will be off until after the Christmas holiday. Then, the team returns to campus for practices leading up to a trip to Michigan for the Kalamazoo Classic on Dec. 29-30. That Saturday, the Fighting Scots are slated to take on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (3-4) at 2 p.m., on the campus of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. Rose-Hulman and Wooster have never played previously in this sport. It is not a tournament-style Classic, so Sunday’s match-ups are pre-determined, with the Scots taking on host Kalamazoo (3-4) at 4 p.m. Kalamazoo and Wooster have split their four-game all-time series, including a 75-63 victory for the Scots just last season. The other squad at this event will be the University of the Redlands (5-3).

Last Week: Following a week of final exams, Wooster went out and won a non-league contest to up its record to 3-4 this year.

On Dec. 14, the Scots turned a five-point halftime advantage (39-34) into a double-digit cushion for most of the second half, as they rolled to a 73-60 victory against Ursuline College. It was 52-47 when Wooster went on a game-clinching 13-2 run, which included five points by freshman guard Taylor Keegan (Mohrsville, Pa. / Holy Name) and four from sophomore backcourt mate Kelly Aughenbaugh (Wooster, Ohio / Wooster). For the game, sophomore guard Kym Wenz (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake) led the way once again for the Scots, tossing in 24 points, including 5-of-7 3-point shooting. She also collected seven rebounds and four steals, both team-highs. Complementing her was sophomore post Kaitlin Krister (Kent, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit), who scored 18 points, and Keegan, who added a career-high 16, highlighted by a perfect 4-of-4 on 3-pointers.

This and That: The win against Ursuline marked the 100th for coach Lisa Campanell Komara during her tenure at Wooster ... Albeit early in the season, Kym Wenz (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake) ranks first in the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring at 17.4 points per game. The last Scot to lead the league in scoring was exactly 10 years ago – Katie Montague (21.5 ppg in 1997-98) ... As a team, Wooster is shooting the ball extremely well thus far this season, as its .376 3-point percentage (47-of-125) and .721 free throw percentage (80-of-111) would set school records, if those rates can be maintained. The previous highs by Scot teams were a .310 3-point percentage back in 1989-90 and a .713 free throw percentage in 1991-92.
