WOOSTER, Ohio — The College of Wooster women’s basketball team, which went 13-13 last year for the program’s first .500 or better season since 1992-93, was picked to finish among the middle-third of the nine-team North Coast Athletic Conference during Tuesday’s NCAC Basketball Media Day.

The coaches expect Wooster to finish in a tie with Denison University for fifth-place in the league, as each team compiled 40 points, while the media had the Scots alone in sixth with 108 total points.

The top of both polls were close, with Ohio Wesleyan University emerging as the narrow favorite over Wittenberg University, Allegheny College, and Earlham College. Ohio Wesleyan totaled 16 first-place nods — five from the coaches and 11 from the 24-member media panel — and 74 of 90 points from the coaches and 195 of 216 points from the media.

The bottom-third of each poll consisted of Kenyon College, Oberlin College, and Hiram College in that order.

Wooster, under the direction of seventh-year coach Lisa Campanell Komara, returns 13 letterwinners, including six with starting experience. The Scots are expected to be a guard-oriented team, led this season by senior sharpshooter Lindsey Schaaff (Loveland, Ohio / Mt. Notre Dame), who topped the NCAC in both three-pointers made (52) and three-point percentage (.394) in 2002-03.

The Scots will make their 2003-04 debut Nov. 22-23, when they welcome in Manchester (Ind.) College, Thiel College, and Westminster (Pa.) College for the Nan Nichols Classic.
