Scots’ Season Ends In NCAC Tourney Semifinals

Winners of nine of its last 11 matches, The College of Wooster’s volleyball team late-season run of momentum came to an end Friday evening in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament inside the HPER Center in Springfield. The No. 3 seed Fighting Scots fell in three games to No. 2 seed Hiram College 30-24, 30-21, 30-25, and ended their 2007 campaign with an overall record of 15-14.
Sophomore outside hitter KateLynn Riley paced the offensive attack for Wooster as she connected with a team-high nine kills to go with three block assists. Carolyn Cireigio and Erin Wright contributed eight and seven kills, respectively, while Wright added to her team-best block stat totals with one block solo and two block assists.
In the Wooster back row, junior libero Ali Drushal paced the team with 25 digs, while Megan Earle racked up 17 digs and senior setter Heather Wolff passed out 40 assists and smacked five kills.
Hiram (27-4), ranked No. 19 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) national weekly poll, moves on to the championship final where it will meet No. 1-ranked Wittenberg University (33-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Tigers swept Earlham College 30-21, 30-19, 30-20 in Friday’s other semifinal to put themselves in contention for their 10th tournament title in the last 11 years, as Hiram took home the tournament title a season ago.
