Schaffner Earns First-Team Academic All-District Honors
The College of Wooster’s Erin Schaffner (North Canton, Ohio / GlenOak) became a three-time Academic All-District Volleyball Team selection Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced, as the senior hitter was one of six players to be voted first-team this season after receiving third-team recognition the last two years. As a first-team selection, Schaffner will be considered for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team® to be released Nov. 28. Schaffner, majoring in biology with a 4.0 grade-point average in five of her six semesters at Wooster, was the Fighting Scots’ leader in kills in 2006, averaging 3.32 per game en route to honorable mention on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Team. She ranked seventh in the league in kills as well as eighth in blocks (0.76 bpg) while leading the injury-riddled Scots to a 14-16 record. Academically, Schaffner was one of 28 juniors inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society last year, and athletically, she finished second in team history in career kills with 1,362. The academic all-district teams are determined by CoSIDA via a vote of top players with minimum 3.20 GPA’s. Wooster’s nominees go up against student-athletes from the college division (NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA) in the five-state district of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. |
