The College of Wooster has a chance to earn three North Coast Athletic Conference victories in volleyball action this week, as the Fighting Scots continue their quest for a berth in the league?s four-team postseason tournament. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Scots host Ohio Wesleyan University (11-3, 3-2 NCAC) in a crucial match-up at Timken Gymnasium, starting at 7 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster are neck-and-neck in the NCAC standings, both tied for third-place. Last season, the Scots easily swept the Battling Bishops 30-22, 30-11, 30-12. This Friday night, Sept. 29, Wooster will be in Granville, Ohio, for a showdown against Denison University (7-8, 2-3 NCAC), currently in a tie for fifth-place in the conference. The two teams played a marathon match in 2005, with Denison pulling out the 3-2 win (30-27, 29-31, 30-27, 30-32, 15-8). On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Scots will be in action again, capping their week with a home contest against Kenyon College (2-12, 0-4 NCAC) as part of ?Family WeekendOL at Wooster, beginning at 1 p.m. The Scots easily handled the Ladies in three-straight games last year (30-16, 30-16, 30-22).

Last Week: Wooster endured an up-and-down week, starting with a couple of easy sweeps in NCAC action, followed by losing a pair in a tri-match, which moves its overall record to 7-8. First, on Sept. 20, the Scots knocked off NCAC foe Allegheny College in three (30-27, 30-27, 30-28). Wooster returned home and disposed of Earlham College on Sept. 22 in three (30-24, 30-14, 30-20). The Scots then had a highly-competitive tri-match, welcoming in No. 13 ranked and NCAC power Wittenberg University to Timken Gym as well as Baldwin-Wallace College, a traditional contender in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Wittenberg swept Wooster 30-16, 30-20, 30-19, but then the Scots gave Baldwin-Wallace all it could handle before succumbing in five (30-28, 25-30, 31-29, 24-30, 15-13).

Leading Wooster during the week was Carolyn Ciriegio (Covington, Ohio / Covington), who hammered a team-high 68 kills and recorded 57 digs, highlighted by a 30-kill, 27-dig performance against Baldwin-Wallace. Ashley Quisenberry (Springfield, Ohio / Springfield Catholic Central) added 48 kills and 44 digs, and led the squad with 17.5 blocks. She twice registered more than six blocks in a match (Earlham and Baldwin-Wallace). Erin Schaffner (North Canton, Ohio / GlenOak) combined for 41 kills and 10 blocks in the four matches, while KateLynn Riley (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) contributed 42 kills, including a career-high 16 against Baldwin-Wallace. Setter Abbie Casey (Prospect, Ohio / Marion Pleasant) racked up 164 assists, to go along with nine service aces, including five in the Earlham match, while libero Ali Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) led all Scots with 110 digs for the week, including 50 against Baldwin-Wallace.
