Scots Take to the Road for Three at Carnegie

The College of Wooster volleyball team will step outside of North Coast
Athletic Conference play this week when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., for
the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7. The Fighting
Scots will play two matches Friday, the first being a 4:30 p.m. tilt with
Commonwealth Conference member Elizabethtown College (15-2). Wooster will
then match-up with Penn State Altoona (8-6) out of the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Wooster will cap its three-match
weekend with a bout against Medaille College (6-10), also a member of the
AMCC.
Last Week: The Scots were 2-1 last week, all NCAC affairs, despite
losing team leader Carolyn Ciriegio (Covington, Ohio / Covington)
to injury, as they improved to 9-9 overall and remained in a third-place
tie in the league (5-3).
On Sept. 26, Wooster swept visiting Ohio Wesleyan University 30-27, 30-19,
30-22, in spite of having to shuffle its lineup around after losing Ciriegio
five points into the initial game. Senior Ashley Quisenberry (Springfield,
Ohio / Springfield Catholic Central) and freshman KateLynn Riley
(Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) were among the Scot players to step up, each
smashing 13 kills and tallying 12 digs. Quisenberry also added two solo
and three assisted blocks. Also aiding Wooster?s efforts up front was
Erin Schaffner (North Canton, Ohio / GlenOak), who finished with 12
kills and two assisted blocks. Abbie Casey (Prospect, Ohio / Marion
Pleasant) chalked up 42 assists and 13 digs, while Ali Drushal (Lakeville,
Ohio / West Holmes) led the defense with 36 digs from her libero position.
On Sept. 29, Wooster was in Granville, Ohio, where Denison University emerged
with a 30-28, 29-31, 30-23, 30-22 NCAC victory. Riley posted a career-high
21 kills as well as 14 digs and two assisted blocks. Schaffner pounded 15
kills and added five total blocks, while Megan Earle (Middleburg
Hts., Ohio / Midpark) registered 11 kills and 11 digs. Quisenberry also
contributed a double-double (12 kills, 18 digs). Casey finished the evening
with 54 assists and Drushal recorded a match-high 39 digs.
On Sept. 30, the Scots were back home and defeated Kenyon College in four (30-15, 30-26, 26-30, 30-23). Wooster was led by Schaffner, who slammed down 18 kills and added two blocks. Earle smashed 16 kills and registered 13 digs and two service aces, while Quisenberry racked up 15 kills, 18 digs, two solo and two assisted blocks. Rounding out the balanced Scot attack was Riley with 15 kills and seven digs. Casey tallied 52 assists and Drushal totaled 45 digs. |
