Rice Selected to All-Conference Volleyball Squad
WOOSTER, Ohio Despite missing eight of the final 11 matches due to injury, The College of Woosters Tiffany Rice (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinley) was named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Team, garnering second-team recognition for her efforts during the 2003 campaign, announced the league office Thursday. It marked the 5-10 sophomore outside hitters first career postseason honor. Before getting injured, Rice was leading the NCAC in kills per game and was on pace to break the school record for total kills in a season. She wound up second in the league with an average of 3.62 successful attacks, while her 355 kills ranked as the seventh-most by a Scot. Additionally, Rice compiled a team-leading .327 hitting percentage, 25 service aces, 128 digs (1.31 per game), and 32 blocks. If Rice keeps up her current pace over the next two seasons and stays healthy, she will become Woosters all-time kills leader. She currently has 759, 479 behind Mandy Rearick (1996-99). With Rice in the lineup, the Scots were 13-11 through Oct. 9, but they struggled down the stretch without her, losing seven of 11 to finish 17-18 overall. In conference play, Wooster went 4-4, good for fifth-place, and then lost in the NCAC Tournament to fourth-seeded Denison University. |
