Scots Drop Two Matches to Start the Season
The College of Wooster men’s tennis team began its 2008 season Saturday with a pair of matches at Wabash College, first falling to the hosts by a slim 5-4 count, and then falling by a 5-2 score to regionally-ranked Wheaton College.
In the Wabash match, it was 2-1 in favor of the Scots after the doubles competition, but then the Little Giants took four of the six singles matches for the one-point victory. Picking up wins in doubles were the tandems of Grant D’Augustine and Pat Grab at No. 1 (8-5), and Ethan Arenstein and Dave Albrechta at No. 2 (8-3).
After dropping the first three singles matches, Jeremy Dominik picked up a victory at No. 4 singles, beating Ryan Tennyson of Wabash 7-5, 6-2, while Arenstein triumphed at No. 6 over Jacob Castilow by a 6-4, 6-4 score.
Against Wheaton, Arenstein and Albrechta made it a perfect weekend in doubles play, as the tandem defeated the duo of Davis Moore and Cory Kraftson at No. 2 (8-5). Grab and D’Augustine also made it an unblemished two-match start, producing Wooster’s other point, winning over the team of Josh Williams and Justin Miller at No. 1 (8-6).
Wooster is off until Feb. 28 when it travels to Ohio Wesleyan University (1-3, 0-1 NCAC) at 4 p.m.
