Playing its second consecutive 5-4 match, The College of Wooster men’s tennis team ended up on the short end this time, as visiting Oberlin College upended the Fighting Scots during Tuesday’s windy conditions at D.J. Hard Memorial Tennis Courts. In its previous outing, Wooster edged Ohio Northern University 5-4, and also noteworthy, the Scots eked out a 5-4 decision over Oberlin last season.

On Tuesday, the Scots (5-6, 1-2 NCAC) got off to a good start, taking two-of-three in doubles, highlighted by Grant D’Augustine’s and Pat Grab’s hard-fought 9-7 victory at the top of the order. Also winning were Rob Ashmead and Andrew Garnett at No. 3 (8-3).

Oberlin (7-5, 3-0 NCAC) bounced back, though, for four singles victories to take the match. Every singles match, which included D’Augustine and Chris Collen continuing their hot play for Wooster, was decided in straight sets. D’Augustine prevailed 7-5, 6-2 for his third-straight win at the second position and Collen improved to 8-1 on the season via a 6-2, 6-0 rout at No. 6.

The Scots will look to bounce back at Malone College (8-4) on Friday at 4 p.m.
