Scots Fall to 5-3 on the Season With Close 4-3 Loss to CWRU
The College of Wooster mens tennis team has been involved in a number of close matches in 2004, including Friday afternoon, as the Scots dropped a close 4-3 decision to Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. Wooster (5-3) has already been involved in four 4-3 matches, posting a 2-2 record. The difference on Friday came in the middle of the singles lineup, as the Spartans were able to post victories between the No. 2-5 singles spots, including two in three sets. Woosters Will Morrison at No. 2 and Alec Garnett at No. 3 each rallied to win the second set in their singles matches after dropping the first set, but both were unable to close out the match. Morrison lost 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 to Ben Snider, while Garnett fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to Eric Radke. Case Westerns other two points came at fourth and fifth singles, where Jon Waldman defeated Nikhil Gonsalves 7-5, 6-3 and Drew Shifle downed Cyrus Karimian 6-3, 6-2. Returning to action after missing the last two matches with an injury was Nilesh Saldanha, who posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Steve Hsu. The Scots other singles point came at No. 6, where Tim Wyatt posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cory Darrow. Wooster did capture the doubles point, winning all three matches. Saldanha and Gonsalves need a tiebreaker to win its match 8-7 (4). Garnett and Dan Fleszar were 8-3 winners at No. 2, while Morrison and Chris Mickelson took an 8-5 victory at No. 3. Wooster is not scheduled to return to action until April 5, when it hosts Walsh University. |
