Scot Men's Tennis Defeats Ohio Northern 6-1
In a non-conference match today (April 13) at Wooster, the Scot
men's tennis team defeated Ohio Northern by a score of 6-1. It was a
tightly-contested match-up with three of the matches being decided in
third-set tiebreakers.
Wooster sophomore Jake Sintich coasted to his second-straight win
at number-one and evened his season record in singles play to 8-8 by
defeating Brad Miller 6-2, 6-0. The Polar Bears gained their lone point of
the afternoon at the second singles position where Brian Mielton outlasted
junior Rob Ogg 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2). Junior Matt Bierlein continued his
strong play of late for the Scots, posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory at third
singles over Matt Maddox.
Sophomore Jim Sayed won a marathon-match at the number-four
position, downing Kevin Dailey 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7). Wooster freshman Clint
Bailey eased past Chris Shaffer 6-3, 6-1 at number-five, while classmate
Brandon Lichtman topped Adam Smith in another close match at sixth singles
by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
Doubles play was just as competitive with Wooster taking two of the
three matches to gain the point. Sintich and Lichtman teamed up to defeat
Mielton and Maddox 8-6 at number-one, while Ogg and sophomore Paul Wiley
beat Dailey and Shaffer 8-4 at second doubles. Bierlein and junior Kirk
Lapham lost their first match of the season at number-three doubles by a
margin of 9-7 to Miller and Smith.
