Scot Men's Tennis Nearly Upsets Powerful Kenyon

Rob Ogg picked up one of Wooster's three points with a win at No. 2 singles.
The College of Wooster men's tennis program continued its theme of close matches this season, as the Scots came within one point of upsetting traditional-power Kenyon this afternoon (April 18). However, the visiting Lords came away with the 4-3 victory, marking Wooster's sixth 4-3 loss this season.

"Despite the loss, this was one of our better matches of the season," commented Scot head coach Hayden Schilling. "Our players, up and down the lineup, showed great intensity, and I really could not have asked for a better effort."

The least competitive match of the day, unfortunately for Wooster, came at first singles where sophomore Jake Sintich lost 6-1, 6-2 to Scott Schoenberger. The Scots picked up a point at second singles, however, as junior Rob Ogg took a 7-5, 2-0 lead before Jarin Jaffe defaulted.

The middle of Wooster's singles lineup struggled with sophomore Paul Wiley slipping to Kennan Hughes 7-5, 6-4 at number-three and junior Matt Bierlein dropping a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Josh Katzman at number-four.

The Scots exhibited their depth again by taking the fifth and sixth singles positions. Sophomore Jim Sayed came back from a 3-6, 0-3 deficit to defeat John Dix 7-5 in the third set at number-five, while freshman Clint Bailey topped Chris Enright 6-4, 7-5 at number-six.

The Lords won the doubles point to earn the victory led by Tiom Bearman and Hughes' 8-5 defeat of freshman Brandon Lichtman and Sintich at number-one. Also, Jaffe and Schoenberger posted an 8-6 win over Ogg and Wiley in second doubles, while Bierlein and Sayed defeated Dix and Katzman 8-6 at number-three.
