Dave Albrechta (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) and Grant D’Augustine (Cincinnati, Ohio / Turpin), both seniors at The College of Wooster, received honorable mention as singles players on the 2008 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Team, the NCAC office released Monday.
Albrechta, a first-timer on the All-NCAC Team, was Wooster’s No. 1 singles player this spring, starting every match there except for two due to injury. While competing against the top players from across the NCAA Div. III Central Region, the 6-1 lanky right-hander won three matches, upping his career total to 21 victories (21-38). Albrechta, who was a mainstay in the Fighting Scots’ lineup throughout his four years, was also part of 10 doubles’ wins during 2008, which puts his career record in such matches at 25-36.
D’Augustine, also a first-time recipient of a postseason award, spent most of the campaign at No. 2 in the singles order. He used a four-match win streak at the end of the year to post a 10-7 record there, tying for the most wins on the team. The lefty who made steady improvements while at Wooster was one-half of the No. 1 doubles team (10-12) as well, and finishes his career with records of 35-39 and 45-29 in singles and doubles, respectively.
The duo led the Scots to a fifth-place finish in the NCAC as well as an 8-14 record against a challenging schedule that featured eight regionally-ranked opponents.
