Chapman Highlights Scots' All-NCAC Selections
After anchoring a defensive unit that ranked third in the North Coast Athletic Conference, allowing less than one goal per game (0.88), College of Wooster senior defender Adam Chapman (Denver, Colo. / Kent Denver School) was awarded with first-team All-NCAC accolades, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Also receiving recognition were fellow Fighting Scot defensive stalwarts Tim Presto (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) and Erik Larson (El Paso, Texas / Stony Point), who each received honorable mention on the All-NCAC Team. Chapman, who earns his second all-conference distinction in soccer after being honorable mention last season, also is two-time All-NCAC in lacrosse. On the soccer pitch in 2006, he used his speed and aggressive, physical play to lead Wooster to eight shutouts in 16 matches. Chapman started every one, increasing his career total to 37 starts and 64 games played as he helped the Scots to 31 shutouts and a 44-13-9 record (.739) during his career (2003-06). Presto, a senior defender, was once again a key contributor to one of the league’s stingiest units after being a second-team All-NCAC honoree in 2005. Alongside Chapman, he started all 16 contests and helped limit opposing teams to 0.88 goals and 11.38 shots per game. Presto was an offensive contributor, too, recording four points (one goal, two assists) this fall, good for fifth-best on the squad. That increased the defensive standout’s career total to nine points on three goals and three assists over 60 games, 53 of which he started. Larson, a first-year starter as a junior, picks up his initial all-conference award after playing every minute in goal for Wooster (1497:20). He ranked second in the NCAC in save percentage (.844) as well as saves (4.75 per game), while compiling a 0.84 goals against average and eight shutouts. Five of the shutouts came during a six-match stretch, including one against Ohio Wesleyan University on Sept. 30, which is currently in the “Final Four” of the NCAA Div. III Tournament. As a team, the Scots completed 2006 with a 10-4-2 overall record (.688) and secured a fifth-place finish in the highly-competitive NCAC (4-3-2), narrowly missing out on earning a spot in the conference tourney. |
