Scots Continue Five-Game Homestand Against Otterbein
 |
| Nick Waychoff |
Game three of an opening five-game homestand for The College of Wooster menęs soccer team will be Saturday, Sept. 9, as the Fighting Scots look to build upon their two-game winning streak when they welcome Otterbein College (2-0) to Carl Dale Memorial Field at 3:30 p.m. It will be Woosteręs only only match of the week. The Scots are 5-1-1 all-time against the Cardinals, the most recent being a 2-1 victory in 2005. Noteworthy, Otterbein has opened this season 2-0, posting identical 2-1 triumphs over North Coast Athletic Conference schools Kenyon College and Wittenberg University at the Wittenberg Invitational.
Last Week: Wooster won both of its opening-week contests to begin
the year at 2-0.
On Sept. 1, the Scots prevailed in a back-and-forth tilt with visiting Heidelberg
College, as Steve Fracassoęs (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) penalty
kick in the 73rd minute proved to be the difference in a 3-2 match. Wooster
struck first, when Nick Waychoff (Cleveland Hts., Ohio / Cleveland
Heights) booted a pass by Aaron Oster-Beal (Littleton, Colo. / Littleton)
into the back of the net during the third minute of play. The •Berg eventually
knotted the score 1-1 at the 45:35 mark. The Scots regained the lead in
the 62nd minute when an attempt drew the Heidelberg goalie out of the net,
allowing Fracasso to sail a shot over his head for the score ® the first
in a Wooster uniform for the sophomore transfer. The •Berg refused to back
down, finding the net again 70:12 into the game. Just about three minutes
later, Heidelbergęs goalie was whistled for a foul, setting up the eventual
game-winning penalty kick by Fracasso. In his first career start, junior
•keeper Erik Larson (El Paso, Texas / Stony Point) recorded one save
to preserve the win.
On Sept. 2, the Scots squeaked past Lake Erie College by a 1-0 margin in
soggy conditions at Carl Dale Memorial Field. Freshman Karl Ruteręs (Glenview,
Ill. / Glenbrook South) goal in the 12th minute of play proved to be the
only scoring, while Larson picked up his first career shutout with two saves.
