The College of Wooster men’s soccer team, 2003 North Coast Athletic Conference co-champions, was picked to finish in a tie for second this year, according to the coaches’ preseason poll, which was released by the league office Thursday afternoon.

Three teams received first-place votes, as six went to Ohio Wesleyan University, three to Wooster, and one to Denison University. Ohio Wesleyan, last season’s NCAC Tournament champion, emerged as the overall favorite with 94 of a possible 100 points, while the Scots and Denison each ended with 84.

Allegheny College was a convincing pick for fourth at 77 points, followed by Wittenberg University (59) to complete the top-half of the poll.

Rounding out the expected standings were Oberlin College (49), Wabash College (37), Kenyon College (31), Earlham College (25), and Hiram College (10).

Wooster, which went 12-3-3 overall last fall, including 8-1-0 in the NCAC, will make its 2004 debut at Marietta College — the fourth-straight year it has opened at the southeastern Ohio school. The Scots will play Carthage College on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 5:30 p.m., and then match-up with host Marietta Sunday at 2 p.m.
