Three Scot Players Picked All-Region
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recently announced its all-region teams, and The College of Wooster had three All-Great Lakes selections - Brian Conaway (Twinsburg, Ohio /Twinsburg) and Andrew DeBord (Cincinnati, Ohio / Indian Hill) on the first team and second-teamer Adam Milligan (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville). Conaway and DeBord pick up their third consecutive all-region selections after both being named to the first team in 2002 and the second team in 2003, while Milligan drops down from a first-team selection last season.
Few players were as potent scorers in the open field as Conaway was in 2004, as he was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the North Coast Athletic Conference after leading the league in scoring with 1.94 points per match. The 5-10, 160-pound junior forward scored a career-high 31 points on 12 goals, eight of which resulted in game-winners, and seven assists. Conaway scored 26 of his points (11 goals, four assists) over a nine-game span, including his second career hat trick against Oberlin College. A two-time NCAC Offensive Player of the Year and three-time first-team all-conference performer, he has totaled 75 points on 31 goals and 13 assists in his career, putting him in position to finish among the top-five scorers in school history.
DeBord closes out his career as arguably one of the best defenders in school history, anchoring a defense, which held opponents to 0.68 goals and 7.86 shots per match this season. The 6-0 170-pound senior started all 16 matches, taking eight shots at the goal and recording two assists, while helping Wooster shutout eight of its 16 opponents. With DeBord on the field for the last four years, the Scots compiled a 0.80 GAA with 31 shutouts, and allowed just 8.22 shots at the goal.
Milligan, a three-time all-conference selection, earned his second all-region honor after finishing second in the league to Conaway with 1.75 points per match. The senior tallied nine goals and a school-record 10 assists on the season for 28 points. Three of his goals turned out to be game-winners and he converted on all three of his penalty kicks this season. Milligan closes his career in third-place on Wooster's all-time scoring list, accumulating 39 goals and 19 assists for 97 points. The Scot men's soccer team went 13-3-0 this fall and shared the NCAC championship (8-1-0) with Ohio Wesleyan University (8-1-0). Wooster was the No. 1 seed and host of the NCAC Tournament for the third-straight time, but succumbed to fourth-seeded and eventual tournament champion, Allegheny College, in the opening round 1-0. |
